Friends, our Unitarian Universalist congregation will host a time of remembrance and gratitude for the life of Robert Dick on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the Parish House at 86 Court Street. Please come and share your favorite memories and stories of your time with Bob Dick. A simple reception follows the service when friends can continue to tell their stories.
Dear Castine area Friends, this event is important as we continue to re-imagine the impact of colonizers on our indigenous peoples. We're not trying to rewrite history, we're trying to understand our past in a context of truth and perhaps reconciliation.

Sunday, January 20th. Morning worship service is at 10:30 at the UU Meeting House on the Castine Town Common on Court Street. Sermon: “What Would Martin Luther King, Jr. do?” The Rev. Margaret Beckman preaching. It’s not enough to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. So many of us have raised the words and actions of Dr. King to saint-like status and the temptation to do so again on the anniversary of King’s birth is strong. Yet, perhaps we need to focus our energy on our own time and the demands of this day. What would MLK be preaching and doing if he were with us now? Perhaps we can say and do what he might as a way of honoring his ministry. Our congregation has a somewhat unique ministry in our Opportunity Fund. So, in honor of MLK, we will explore and begin to answer the question: “What Would MLK do?” Join us. Service at 10:30. Potluck at 11:30. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, January 13, 2019 Morning Service at 10:30 a.m. "Poetry That Moves Me" This is Poetry Sunday! To give us a spiritual boost into the new year, we will share poetry from a number of local poets and other favorite poets of the ages. Patricia Ranzoni and Sharon Bray will be with us and we will remember Louise Wheeler and Philip Booth. Our members have contributed poems from Shel Silverstein, Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, Matthew Arnold, Emily Dickinson and more. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. and we gather for Coffee Hour at 11:30 a.m. Tell It Out Loud, We Pick the Theme, You Tell the Story begins right after coffee is served and cookies shared. We are delighted to partner with Compass Rose Books to host the first in a series of Tell It Out Loud gatherings. This week the theme is Hibernate. Johanna Barrett of Compass Rose Books has lined up a terrific list of poets and story-tellers. Anyone can add their own contributions to the fun. We plan to be done in time for the Patriots vs. Chargers kick-off for all our poetry-loving football fans! Please plan to come on Sunday to share great poetry and stories ... and bring a friend. We are delighted to welcome whoever comes, however you come. UU Religious Education for Children is also at 10:30 a.m.

This Sunday, November 11th, our thoughts turn to Veterans Day, originally Armistice Day. This day marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. What does it mean to be a patriot in America in 2018 when we seem so deeply divided and the trinity of threats - patriarchy, white nationalism, and christian nationalism – pit neighbor against neighbor? Can we love America and still be deeply critical of where we find ourselves today? Rev. Margaret Beckman takes up the subject in her sermon for this week, “To Be a Patriot.” Come as you are, you are welcome here. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Potluck lunch following the service. Bring a Friend! Religious Education for children at 10:30 a.m. Voices were heard this week when our families and friends voted. Our story this week is about making decisions so everyone's voice is heard. Gather with us to light the chalice and share with one another.

Coffee Hour and Conversation is at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday- everyone is welcome - even those who don't attend the Sunday Morning Worship Service at 10:30 at the UU Meeting House on Court Street in Castine. On Sunday, November 4th, The Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer will be preaching at our UU Meeting House. His sermon is "This Fiery Trial" - piety and politics, religion and the public square, not church and state. A great message for us as we head into the voting booth on Tuesday the 4th! Children's Religious Education Program at 10:30 a.m. Adults in our community and in communities throughout the United States will be letting their voices be heard by voting on Tuesday, November 6th. Our book this Sunday, "What Pet Should I Get?" by Dr. Seuss tells how a brother and sister decide on a pet. We'll see if you think everyone's voice is heard in this story. Gather with us to light our chalice and share with one another.

The damage caused by the continuous and varied expressions of unexamined privilege are astounding. Silence is not an option. Ignorance is not an option. Sunday's sermon, "You Are the Man" invites all of us to reflect on our role in privilege and our responsibility to end it. Please join our conversation and our coffee hour beginning at 10:30 am at the UU Meeting House on the Castine Town Common. We welcome all people, with and without privilege, of good will.
